Nightvision: Nakai’s Wing – knyghtshadesart

Why did you pick this picture?

I picked this sketch to show my work on the blog as it covers many aspects of what I do. She is a character in the fantasy novel “Nightvision” that I have written and am polishing up. I hope to start sending it out to publishers within the year. Nakai’s Wings also displays the coloring posters that I make and sell on Facebook and Storenvy under Inkmagine and Create. She is drawn on archival cardstock, 20×24, in ink.

Where did the idea come from?

The idea for Nakai’s Wings came from my book of course. She is an owl shapeshifter and this piece displays her in dire form, a hybrid shape between human and owl.

Why does this mean so much to you?

This piece means a lot to mean as I have been working on Nightvision off and on for years, so Nakai is a character that has been with me for a long time, and I hope she will continue to be through the sequels of Nightvision.

What can you tell us about yourself?

Art of all sorts runs in the family. My cousins went with music, photography, and game design. I learned to draw and paint from my Dad and gradually branched out into my own styles with ink. It’s a constant learning process to get better, learn new techniques, and expand my portfolio. I am also a book dragon with about two thousand books in my horde. Artist, writer, gamer, geek.

What more can you tell us about your art?

I am experienced in working with the traditional mediums: charcoal, graphite, chalk, and ink. Have done oils and acrylics as well. Ink, copic primarily, is my current medium of choice. I love the copic airbrush system. I take commissions for portraits, pets, and illustration work.
