Peacock – laurawrart

Why did you pick this picture?

I think this is one of my best pictures so far. It’s my first proper drawing using my markers, and I love how bright the colours are.
Where did the idea for this art come from?

It’s actually based on one of my GCSE coursework pieces. We did a ‘Natural World’ project, and I ended up drawing and redrawing peacocks for weeks on end. The end result was a huge watercolour, pencil and biro piece that is now hanging in my parents living room. This is the first time I’ve even thought about drawing a peacock since, 6 years later.
What does this art mean to you?

Peacocks have always brought me luck. I think if I went to Hogwarts, my patronus would be one. Drawing such a similar composition to my GCSE piece a number of years later really helped me see that I have improved and that my art, and my life, has moved on.
What can you tell us about yourself?

I’m 21, I work part time but also study part time for a degree in Physics. I have a very short attention span and find myself drifting between hobbies. I love drawing, painting, sewing, gaming, cosplaying and I especially love binge watching Netflix. Also, my cat is my best friend. His name is Nacho. He’s Nacho cat.
What more can you tell us about your art?

I have yet to discover my own style. Instead I like to try all kinds of different things, from Bob Ross inspired oil paintings to pencil portraits and some more cartoony things too. I go with the flow, and try out whatever I feel like at the time. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it really doesn’t. But I guess that’s what art is all about.
