Why did you pick this picture?
I chose this picture because it is an accurate portrayal of the focus it takes to create my artwork. All of my pieces require great patience and diligence to accomplish the detail I desire. Also, the obscure medium I chose (salt) highlights my ability to work with non-traditional materials while still achieving realism and emotion.
Where did the idea come from?
I had seen a couple artist use salt as a medium and thought I could match, if not, exceed their abilities.
What can you tell us about yourself?
I believe that a true artist can express themselves with any mediums. I like to challenge myself to experiment with unfamiliar media so hay I’m always learning and becoming well-rounded. While I love traditional artwork (pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, etc.), I think people enjoy behind exposed to ideas they haven’t seen before. Artists need to be encouraged to set sail on new horizons and venture into unmapped seas so that art as a whole can grow.

#tbt to my salt portrait of Morgan Freeman! This piece set off a chain reaction of media attention from @npr, @dailymirror, @hartfordcourant, and @abcnews among others. I'm simply overwhelmed from the response it received, and excited to push the limits of salt realism even further. Stay tuned for more salt on the horizon! 📸 @efinnance #passthesalt #saltart #salt #morganfreeman
