Why did you pick this picture?
I chose this art (The Girl with Blue Hair) because the first traces were defined in the act of creation. She was inspired by a student who often passes me by on my way to work. I wanted to represent this attitude inherent to the younger generation. Based on this piece, I started the project “Um dedo de arte”.
Where did the idea come from?
I’ve always painted, drawn, and enjoyed art, but after visiting an exhibition of surrrealist painter Joan Miró, it appears this inclination for art has infected me for good. I saw the freedom of a child’s scribbles in his traces, but which in essence embeds messages on many levels.
This impacted me deeply. I began attempting the initial strokes on paper and the aesthetics of my art was born …. Its DNA is based on the shape of the mouth and eyes, which always take a prominent place in the composition. After a few months, I received an update notification on my iPhone letting me know I could use the Notes app to draw using three lines and 16 color options. Since then, I’ve used this tool to create studies of my art. Only after their digital creation do I carry them to the canvas with acrylic paint.
What does this art mean to you?
It means freedom, attitude, and strength. I have a very wide range of sources of inspiration, but in much of my work, what you see is the result of my perception of the 21st century woman. I use bold colors to breathe life into my work. And it is through this creation that I try to instigate feelings of joy, strength, and courage in my viewers.
What can you tell us about yourself?
My name is Diego Moura. I’m a 27-year-old resident of Niterói, a metropolitan area in Rio de Janeiro. I’m a graphic designer, photographer, and plastic artist. Every Saturday, I volunteer at a social project for underprivileged adolescents in Sao Gonçalo, also in Rio de Janeiro, teaching photography and design lessons. I also work as an in-house designer at a multinational software company.
What more can you tell us about your art?
My dream is to have my art become a tool for social transformation. I want to value human beings with all their peculiarities. What I mean by this is that the “The Girl with Blue Hair”, “The Girl with Green Hair”, and the many other characters that inspired me may be invisible to the eyes of society, but not to mine. (Those interested in my work can purchase it through my social network profiles: Instagram @umdedodearte and @diegomouradesign/Facebook @Umdedodearte. The works are sold in two formats: digital, which are drawings created in the iPhone app, or painted on canvas with acrylic paint (sizes ranging from 40x40cm to 100x100cm)).
