Yin and Yang – artist_tikhomirova_daria

Why did you pick this picture?

I consider this silk painting one of the most successful among my latest artworks: it perfectly shows what my technique is, my passion to details and golden liner. It’s also quite meaningful. The symbol of a hand is very important for me and it goes from one painting to another. Right and left hand as symbols are charged with different, even opposite, meanings. Here the alternation of right and left hand forming the sun, together with yin and yang symbol make one think about the harmony, balance and maybe denial of the b&w perception of things, people, world on the whole. As the philosophers of ancient Greece say, all the opposites that exist in the world complement each other, as the Sun of the day and the Moon of the night, man and woman, life and death.

Where did the idea for this art come from?

Actually, it was one of my friends who wanted me to paint two cats for his friends’ anniversary. I was searching for a creative way of presenting it. Finally, it became a little bit more than just a portrait of who cats.

What does this art mean to you?

Well, it’s an allegory of Harmony I would say.

What can you tell us about yourself?

Well, I am a silk lover first of all. I love how it floats, glitters, makes a parade… I think it’s the most gorgeous material ever and I feel an insatiable need to create something from it: a painting, a scarf or even a dress. Apart from that, I love horse riding, reading and travelling. B&W photography is my passion.

What more can you tell us about your art?

By my art I just try to show the beauty and complexity of this world. As someone who cares much about details, I try to imagine, depict and make the viewer notice the smallest detail, make it an important part of the whole. That’s why they are very present on my paintings.
