QUEEN BEE – mralfordcountry

Why did you pick this picture?

I love to draw animals, because they’re the best humans.

Where did the idea come from?

Whilst at a lunch focusing on sustainable local food thanks to my friend Claire, we met a guy who did a lot of backyard beehives, let’s call him the Bee Man. He had an ACTUAL LIVE BEE stored in his pocket at lunch and was explaining the importance and fragility of the bees and their place in the ecosystem. We as humans need to think more about the world we live in and the immense impact each individual has. Also he gave me some honey and it was AMAZING! I draw what i think and i was thinking QUEEN BEE!

What does this art mean to you?

I think animals are amazing and I love the fact that when drawing I learn as much as I can about my subject. Drawing is my meditation, it’s my diary and my quiet, just me a pen and some paper.

What can you tell us about yourself?

I draw pictures, play bluegrass music and in between I drink tea. Short bio, long story 🙂

What more can you tell us about your art?

Hahah there is a lot of it. I draw as much as I can, I think you get better with every attempt. I don’t believe I have a style but maybe a certain sensibility. I love the process and making people smile, outcome is a great reward for time spent. I only use Copic Markers as I am a Australian Ambassador for the company. I love their range and it’s been a real privilege to work with products I already love, .03 Multiliner is amazing. I believe everyone can draw in one way or another.

I would prefer to try and fail than never try at all, I fail a lot.
