Why did you pick this picture?
I picked this picture because I’m really happy with how it all flows together. The colors of the vinyl, the way she wraps around the record, and the way her bones show through like an X-ray. I felt they all compliment each other well and I am rather proud of this piece.
Where did the idea come from?
I’ve had a box of 45s I couldn’t play due to scratches and general bad care. We had found them in a family members garage and I had been holding onto them for years waiting for the right project. I got low on paper and decided to try using white ink on the 45s. The white ink inspired me to draw what almost an X-ray of people in motion.
What does this art meant to you?
I was influenced greatly by music and the way it can make us feel. The colors felt youthful and fun. Up tempo and exciting. It reminds me of my teen years spent alone in my bedroom listening to music.
What can you tell us about yourself?
I’ve been an artist since the beginning, although I have never had formal training. My free time is spent at home with my 3 domesticated beasts while drawing or enjoying a good beer out on the town.
What can you tell us about your art?
I’m heavily influenced by vintage photography, botanical prints, and tattoos. I worry a lot about how eclectic my style can be and how all over the place my themes are, but I believe that will only help me grow as an artist. I work in black and white with rare pops of color because it’s what I know and am most comfortable with for the time being, but as any artist I hope to continue to learn, change, and grow.
