Sunday – Sheeps Meadow – teenytinynyc

Why did you pick this picture?

It’s sunny and I’m answering questions on my iPhone so this particular picture felt apt.

Where did the idea for this art come from?

I love playing with scale. A city like New York can be incredibly lonely and I find that the disproportionate is a very powerful way of evoking that. The mundane becomes grand and vice versa. Much of my work contains figures and their smart phones. I’m fascinated by how we’re all out in the world, but so many of us are not. How our increasing technological connectivity is actually distancing us from each other. I tend to take the photos and then work out who is in them later.

What does this art mean to you?

It’s a self portrait of sorts – though I’d never wear a tank top on 57th.

What can you tell us about yourself?

I’m a theatre, animation and film director and who draws in the early hours of the morning to keep sane. I have a cat named Buddy and have been a cat person since 2016.

What more can you tell us about your art?

It’s incredibly meditative, providing a great sense of peace amidst the din of the city
