Why did you pick this picture?
I’m a huge fan of the DC Comics universe in general, but have a special admiration for WonderWoman. In fact, she’s the subject of many of my paintings. I love that she exemplifies peace, truth and inner beauty, but she’s also a badass skilled fighter and warrior inside and out. She broke the princess stereotype and proved herself to be an intricate part of the DC Trinity standing equally next to the likes of Batman and Superman. I chose this picture because it signifies what I, as a woman, aspire to be – strong, humble and…a badass.
Where did the idea for this art come from?
I came up with the idea of this by just combining two things I enjoy painting the most: Flowers and WonderWoman.
What does this art mean to you?
I love the juxtaposition between something fierce and something beautiful. I think often it feels like in society, especially as a woman, you have to choose either or so I wanted the idea come through in this painting that you don’t have to limit yourself…there is no box. I also wanted people to really see WonderWoman as the fierce, strong element of the painting and to let the flowers speak to her inner beauty. I think that WonderWoman is more than a character, she’s a state of mind that young girls, women and even men can look up to.
What can you tell us about yourself?
I’m 26 years old and I truly still don’t know who exactly I am as a person (Nervous “hah”), but I can share some random facts. 😀
• I believe that cheese has the power to turn a sucky day into the best day
• I’ve re-watched every season of FRIENDS at least 10 times
• A teacher once told me that I don’t say much, but when I do it’s important…that’s always stuck with me
• I’m pretty sure I have the cutest dog alive
• I forgot how to ride a bike…so I can imagine how many other myths aren’t true.
What more can you tell us about your art?
My art can be very random. I still have yet to really solidify my voice as an artist, but I’m enjoying the process of experimenting with different mediums and ideas. I think the one idea I can really say inspires most of my pieces is the idea of fierceness, strength and beauty. I’ve seen many insanely talented artists with very distinct styles and it’s taken awhile (actually still in progress) to try to not compare myself to these artists I strongly admire, but to enjoy the journey of unlocking my own creative potential.
