Chess Knight – Fatimah Anwar

Why did you pick this picture?
I picked this picture because it is related to a special memory. I drew it to participate in an art competition on Instagram and I was the first place winner. It was my first time to participate in such competitions and I was so thrilled that I won.
Where did the idea for this art come from?
The artist who held the competition determined two pictures for all the participants to choose from, and I chose this one because I liked its details and I wanted to challenge myself.
What does this art mean to you?
Usually I would spend weeks or maybe months to finish a drawing. But for this one, I had to work really hard in only two days to finish it on time. So, looking at this drawing makes me feel very proud of what I have accomplished and it reminds me that all my hard work has paid off by winning the competition.
What can you tell us about yourself?
I’m a 22 computer science student. I started drawing when I was three years old and it has been my passion since back then. I spent my childhood and teens years on drawing cartoons and anime charactes. In 2013 I started to improve my drawings and working on some realistic pictures. But I still like to draw cartoons from time to time.
What more can you tell us about your art?
I don’t have a specific style or type of art, I simply draw any picture that interests me and that I find its details challenging to draw. I only tried drawing with graphite and colored pencils, so I’m planning to try more different materials in the future until I find my own style of work.
