Flamboyance in subtlety – Vandita

Why did you pick this picture?

I picked this drawing because it made me realize my potential. It is one of my most detailed and colorful drawings. It was definitely challenging but a great experience!

Where did the idea come from?

This was actually a collaboration with a Swedish artist for Reptile awareness day. As soon as I saw the reference picture, I was really tempted to draw it! It truly shows the beauty of reptiles!

What does this art mean to you?

I’m very proud of it! I worked really hard on this one. It made me want to improve more and better my skills!

What can you tell us about yourself?

I’m a 19 year old artist from India. Many people ask if I ever took any classes. No I didn’t. I’m completely self taught. I like to learn by myself. I’m a university student pursuing Btech in biotechnology. I love physics, maths and computer programming. I speak English and hindi fluently. I am currently learning German and earlier learnt bit of Esperanto, Russian and Japanese. And I also know the morse code.

What more can you tell us about your art?

I used to draw and paint well since childhood. I started with watercolour medium, but I was drawn towards color pencils because of the level of detailing you can achieve with them. Realistic art always amazed me. I have an obsession of fitting maximum details in minimum area 😂. I started using color pencils in June 2017 and I instantly loved them! I am strictly a nature, wildlife and pet portrait artist. I sell custom pet portraits. I’m looking forward to try Pastel medium. I usually draw on A4 or A5 size paper. Being an engineering student, I don’t have enough time to work on larger pieces. Also I get easily bored working on a drawing for a long time. So, I refrain to small sized drawings. But in the future, I’d love to try some large pieces and devote more time to art.
