Ishmael – Jonathan Gee

Why did you pick this picture?

of everything that I have produced recently I like the genesis / end result of this one best

Where did the idea come from?

I was sketching a larger piece out and It was really awful and I was very frustrated.  I was about to trash the whole thing but then I saw this image in the top right corner of the design.  It was probably five percent of the whole piece but it was the only part that I liked so I singled it out, put it on its own, got rid of everything else and that was that.

What does this art mean to you?

just to keep working through problems because the solution may come unexpectedly.

What can you tell us about yourself?

when I’m not drawing or working my 9-5 I am out walking my dog Wizard, I drew a bit when I was a kid but never thought it was something I could do professionally.  After working through a few unsatisfying careers, i decided to pursue my art more intensely and got back into drawing in a big way.  Now, the first thing I do when I wake up is draw, I draw on the bus on the way to work and its the last thing I do before I go to sleep.  My biggest lament is waiting so long to pursue this but hopefully that will just keep me working harder.

What more can You tell us about your art?

I like working in blackwork  / ink / digital designs.
