DECAY #4 – Ulrike Pusterhofer

Why did you pick this picture?

I choose “Decay #4” because it’s my latest drawing. I really love the look of her eyes, it’s kind of hypnotizing.

Where did the idea for this art come from?

I use photos, and people I see outside as inspiration. It was the same at this drawing. I saw the picture of a strong, beautiful woman, and thought let’s great something new with this input of inspiration.

What does this art mean to you?

It means a lot to me. Ever since I was a kid I used my freetime for drawing. Gradually I discovered my passion for pastel. I really love drawing with them. There is no brush. There’s just you, the chalk and the paper. My art means to me hours of errors and experimentation. Moments of frustration and moments of pure joy. My drawings are a piece of my soul.

What can you tell us about yourself?

I was born 1996 and raised in the so called “green heart of Austria”. There I grew up in the middle of the woods with two older brothers, lovely parents and a hand full of animals.

Currently I study art history and work as an artist in Vienna

What more can you tell us about your art?

My works are characterized by colourful, strong colours and are drawn exclusively with pastel chalk. My large-format works are reminiscent of street art and deal with topics such as images of women, youth and transitoriness, internal conflicts, death and life, tolerance and virtues.
