Why did you pick this picture?
I chose to draw this picture having recently seen the new ‘Black Panther’ film which was AMAZING! And I tend to draw whatever/whoever I’m currently obsessed with.
Where did the idea come from?
A photograph of Boseman surfaced on my Pinterest one day and I knew straight away it was one I wanted to draw. I don’t always go for photos filled with such a strong contrast of colour but something about it drew me in!
What does this art mean to you?
This piece means a lot to me. It’s the first time for a while I’ve actually felt really satisfied with the final piece. Sometimes when I do a drawing with colour I don’t always like it as I occasionally struggle with matching the correct colours to the reference photo but every time I look at this I just feel so happy!
What can you tell us about yourself?
I am a 20 year old self taught artist. From a young age I was creative, writing short stories and illustrations but it was only when I was about 14 that I actually took art seriously. After a while I gradually realised my enthusiasm for portraiture. I love taking a photo of someone and turning them into a drawing, especially when it’s someone I know in real life. I love seeing people’s reactions to a drawing I’ve done of them and love how a drawing is able to capture certain qualities of that person which a photo cannot.
What more can you tell us about your art?
I hope one day to take my art to the highest quality by practicing every day but I would also love to develop my own style.
