Desi girl (@priyankachopra) – Prajeeth Nair

Why did you pick this picture?

I gave this potrait a try because I loved her hair. It was looking amazing and was challenging to draw at the same time. The photo was so lively and I was not sure if I would be able to do justice to it. Also, I adore Priyanka Chopra, she is so fierce and independent and one of the few stars in the Indian cinema to make her name in Hollywood. She is also a champion for a lot of humanitarian causes with the UNICEF.

Where did the idea for this art come from?

I was going through the profile of Marten de Boer, who is a celebrity photographer and I stumbled upon this beautiful potrait of Priyanka Chopra. I was planning to sketch her since a long time and it was her birthday month. There was this amazing contrast in the picture, her hair looked on point, the twinkle in her eyes and so I decided to give it a try.

What does this art mean to you?

This is by far the best potrait I have drawn. I usually find a lot of faults in my sketches, but I loved how this turned out. I have spent around 30+ hours on this piece and it does teach you a lot of patience.

What can you tell us about yourself?

I am 25 years old, IT consultant by profession and a self taught artist. I used to love drawing when I was a kid but as years passed by studies took over until I started sketching again during my Engineering days. From then I have never stopped, though it has been difficult to juggle between work and art, since you have to devote a good amount of time to create photorealistic sketches.

What more can you tell us about your art?

I got interested in photorealistic sketches when I first came across potraits by Diego Fazio. I was mindblown at the level of details in his sketches, like you will never be able to tell it is hand drawn . Then through social media I found many such artists who had some amazing talent. So I slowly started working on my patience, since I was always in a hurry to finish off a piece. The more patient I became the finer were the details. Finally in 2015, I Finally in 2015, I launched a website http://www.charcoalgraphy.com along with a friend of mine who is also into photorealism. I hope with time, I will be able to reach the level of some artists I look up to and my art inspires others to push their boundaries and try the things they love.
