Why did you pick this picture?
It was quite a process to get it to the end result, so I’m really happy with how everything came out! This piece really sets a standard for all my future artwork and I think it shows how far I’ve come as an illustrator.
Where did the idea for this art come from?
Nature is an interesting thing. It creates these smart, fierce, and cunning creatures but add one unusual trait to the mix and it creates a very fragile creature. Be that a color mutation or habitat loss, many things make a fierce creature fragile. That’s what I was exploring in this piece.
What does this art mean to you?
This piece means a lot to me because it depicts the uniqueness of an organism that we find beautiful but isn’t so great for the creature in its natural environment.
What can you tell us about yourself?
I am a freelance illustrator in Denver, Colorado. If I’m not creating, you can probably find me somewhere in the great outdoors. I love camping, hiking, climbing, anything to do with nature!
What more can you tell us about your art?
My art typically revolves around the natural world and the connections within it. My mediums of choice are gouache and ink, depending on the time of the year. (Gouache in the spring/summer, ink in the winter/fall)
